Feral Seeds
The FERAL SEED forms impart the exuberance of life as it germinates and takes root, opens and pushes out. The eye is drawn along the length of extension and into the heart of the form, where a subtle pattern of contour creates an interlude of visual activity before returning to a smooth curved line. The seed is both a symbol of beginnings and an end in itself, being the cyclical product of a process that encodes a perfect pattern for life to be carried on to the next generation. -
Marine Forms
The real creatures are more beautiful than can ever be captured in stone, but these sculptures reflect the artist's love of marine life in its many forms. -
Shells
The expression of the golden section in the spiral perfection of shells has intrigued the artist since he first encountered them as a child in French Polynesia. Quarries in Afghanistan, Chile, and Turkey yield luscious marbles and onyx into which these exquisite natural forms are carved. -
Nudibranchs
Tiny, magnificent, and often more outrageous than our wildest imaginings, nudibranchs are among the least recognized ocean inhabitants to the general, non-diving public. These sculptures celebrate the extraordinary colors and forms to be found in the world of opisthobranchs. -
Reclamation Sculptures
The juxtaposition of man made architectural line with the fluid curve of natural form inspires the RECLAIMATION series. Soft corals, anemones, and myriad forms of marine life gradually cover and soften the geometric planes of a shipwreck, an underwater visual that has held a particular fascination for the artist since he was introduced to diving as a child by his underwater film maker father, Stan Waterman. -
Ossomuro
The OSSOMURO series reflects the artist's fascination with bones, both as abstract forms and as extraordinary works of structural design. -
Coleoptera
COLEOPTERA describes the sub phylum of beetles in the insect world. These sculptures are inspired by the interlocking forms of exo-skeletal structure and the extraordinary natural design evident in the topographies of this most varied and successful order of creatures.
